El senador Tillis critica las tácticas de ICE/CBP y a la secretaria Noem

El senador de Carolina del Norte, Thom Tillis, exigió la destitución de la secretaria de Seguridad Nacional, Kristi Noem, tras la escalada de violencia por parte de ICE y CBP en enero. Tillis le tildó a Noem de sicofante, “alguien que actúa excesivamente servil hacia alguien importante para obtener una ventaja. No solo son amables, sino que utilizan halagos excesivos, a menudo con falsedad, para conseguir lo que quieren, ya sea un ascenso, estatus social o un favor”. Ofreciendo un paralelismo cinematográfico, Tillis comparó a Noem con Dolores Umbridge, de Harry Potter, señalando que Umbridge “es un ejemplo de sicofante burocrática. Es terriblemente dulce cuando está cerca de aquellos a quienes considera sus superiores y se adula a la autoridad para obtener el poder que necesita para intimidar a quienes están por debajo de ella”. El 25 de enero, un día después de que agentes federales mataran a Alex Pretti en Minneapolis, Tillis exigió una investigación exhaustiva y publicó en X: “Debe realizarse una investigación exhaustiva e imparcial sobre el tiroteo de ayer en Minneapolis, que es el estándar básico que las fuerzas del orden y el pueblo estadounidense esperan tras cualquier tiroteo con agentes involucrados. Senator Tillis rebukes ICE/CBP tactics and Secretary Noem

North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis called for the removal of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, following the escalating violence by ICE and CBP in January. Tillis described Noem as a sycophant, “someone who acts excessively servile toward someone important in order to gain an advantage. They aren't just being nice, they are using excessive flattery, often insincerely, to get what they want, whether that's a promotion, social status or favor.” Offering a movie parallel, Tillis compared Noem to Harry Potter’s Dolores Umbridge, noting that Umbridge “is an example of a bureaucratic sycophant. She is terrifyingly sweet while she is around those she considers her superiors and she sucks up to authority to gain the power she needs to bully those ‘beneath’ her.” On January 25, the day after federal agents killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Tillis called for a full investigation, posting on X, “There must be a thorough and impartial investigation into yesterday’s Minneapolis shooting, which is the basic standard that law enforcement and the American people expect following any officer-involved shooting. For this specific incident, that requires cooperation and transparency between federal, state, and local law enforcement. Any administration official who rushes to judgment and tries to shut down an investigation before it begins are doing an incredible disservice to the nation and to President Trump’s legacy.”
ICE presuntamente agrede a dos ciudadanos estadounidenses en Salisbury

Dos ciudadanos estadounidenses denunciaron que agentes del ICE los discriminaron racialmente y los agredieron en Salisbury el 5 de enero. Según un informe de WUNC News, Edwin Godínez (29) y su hermanastro Yair Alexander Napolés (22), ambos ciudadanos estadounidenses de ascendencia mexicana, llegaron a la empresa de construcción de su familia la mañana del 5 de enero y se enteraron de que dos de sus compañeros de trabajo habían sido detenidos por agentes del ICE mientras conducían el camión de la empresa. Cuando Godínez y Napolés se dirigieron al lugar de la detención del ICE para recuperar el camión abandonado, los agentes los detuvieron y los interrogaron sin darles ninguna explicación.
El video del intercambio, que Godínez supuestamente grabó con su teléfono, se publicó en X. El video muestra a Godínez y Napolés afirmando con calma su ciudadanía y su derecho a grabar el intercambio con su teléfono celular antes de que un agente enmascarado se abalanzara sobre la luna abierta del conductor para intentar arrebatarle el celular. Al no lograrlo, el agente pareció agarrar a Godínez por la sudadera antes de alejarse de la ventanilla. Otro agente enmascarado en el video pareció abrir la puerta y agarrar a Godínez sin deslizar el teléfono, antes de exigirle: "¡Baja el teléfono, no estoy jugando!".
En el video, Godínez y Napolés insisten con calma en su derecho a grabar la conversación mientras los oficiales les gritan. El mismo oficial que previamente se abalanzó sobre el auto lo hace de nuevo, aparentemente intentando someter a Godínez, mientras un oficial enmascarado en la puerta del pasajero intenta quitarle el cinturón de seguridad a Napolés y sacarlo del vehículo. El altercado continúa hasta que el video se desenfoca repentinamente y parece apagarse. En una declaración posterior al grupo de defensa de los derechos de los inmigrantes Siembra NC, publicada en el Instagram del grupo el 7 de enero, Godínez exigió que ICE "deje de abusar de nuestra comunidad", exigiendo que los agentes de inmigración "arresten a gente trabajadora, no a criminales empedernidos".
ICE allegedly assaults two U.S. citizens in Salisbury

Two U.S. citizens alleged that ICE agents racially profiled and assaulted them in Salisbury on January 5. According to reporting by WUNC News, Edwin Godinez (29) and stepbrother Yair Alexander Napolés (22), both U.S.-born citizens of Mexican descent, arrived at their family’s construction business on the morning of January 5, only to learn that two of their coworkers had been stopped and detained by ICE agents while driving their company truck. When Godinez and Napolés drove to the site of the ICE stop to retrieve the abandoned truck, ICE agents stopped them and interrogated them without providing an explanation.
The video of the exchange, which Godinez reportedly recorded on his phone, has since been posted to X. The video shows Godinez and Napolés calmly asserting their citizenship status and their right to record the exchange with their phone before a masked agent lunges into the open drivers-side window in an attempt to grab the phone. Failing to do so, the officer appears to grab Godinez by his sweatshirt before stepping away from the window. Another masked officer in the video then appears to open the door and grab Godinez while failing to swipe the phone before demanding that Godinez, “Put the phone down–[I’m] not playing games!”
In the video, Godinez and Napolés calmly insist on their right to record the exchange while the officers yell at them. The same officer who previously lunged into the car does so again, apparently trying to subdue Godinez while a masked officer at the passenger door attempts to remove Napolés’s seatbelt and pry him from the vehicle. The altercation continues until the video suddenly comes out of focus and appears to shut off. In a statement later made to the immigration rights advocacy group Siembra NC and posted on the group’s Instagram on January 7, Godinez demanded that ICE “stop abusing our community,” noting that immigration enforcement agents “are arresting hardworking people, not hardened criminals.”
